Red, White and True Blue: Made in the U.S.A.

There are certainly many products that we need or simply want, but where they are manufactured isn’t always a top concern when it comes to laying down our hard-earned cash. “Buy American!” might sound like just another slogan for the proudly patriotic but, the truth is, there are many good reasons to seek products manufactured in the good old USA. So, why should you think about more than price when making a purchase? It’s important not only for the carbon footprint, but also to keep people employed in the United States.

Working conditions and safety standards are, on the whole, better in America and American companies offer a more decent wage than many foreign manufacturers. Most U.S.-based manufacturing firms also adhere to rigorous testing criteria, environmental standards and sustainability programs that lift them to the next level in their stewardship of our environment. Of course, there is also the fact that buying American produces American jobs. As we purchase more American-made products, we create more demand for those products and, in turn, jobs are created. It’s a cycle that can produce some truly positive results.

Investing in a conscientious company will prove valuable far beyond an item’s purchase price. That is why furniture lines like Young America take pride in offering products that are made in the USA. An American manufacturer with an 86-year heritage, associates in Virginia and North Carolina have a high regard for the environment and the quality of products they produce. The old adage “you get what you pay for” can ring true for those who ignore quality in the pursuit of a low price. In the end, putting our trust in the human rights and safety standards of American manufactures is something we can all be proud of – especially as parents.

Diaper Duty! Diaper bags we adore.

Spring seems to be a popular season for baby showers and gift-giving galore! A favorite gift is the infamous diaper bag. Selecting a stylish and functional diaper bag is not as easy as it seems – so our office pulled together to come up with their favorite picks in the diaper bag realm. Some of these are actually being used currently for our very own posh tots.

Without further ado, our posh people’s picks for this season’s hottest bags:

Andrea’s bag of choice is a decadent diaper bag with the modern mother as its muse!

Mary Hannon chose a leather diaper bag that is both durable and fashion-forward.

The bag Cindy chose can be used as a functional diaper bag for tiny tots or as a carry-all for the toddler years and beyond.

Our favorite fashionista, Susan, chose a bag that reinforces her fabulous taste while still proving to be functional.

Sue Ellen’s personality can now be defined as somewhat exotic, as her giraffe-print diaper bag whisks us away to a warm safari.

Sarah’s bag of choice features a unique, versatile print that can be dressed-up or kept casual. It moves effortlessly from satchel to backpack and from diaper bag to handbag.

New dad Branin reminds us that diaper bags aren’t just for mommies. He has this fabulous Scout bag at home, wait…actually, it’s probably in his car or somewhere within arm’s reach.

Our bright and bold merchandiser, Ashley, would choose no less a bag than one that encompasses all her personality has to offer.

Expectant momma Shenna decides she may need a bag that is more substantial for trips with her new boo, so she springs for the Petunia Pickle Bottom Playful Poppy Wistful Weekender.

Jason opts for a bag that is convertible as a messenger or backpack and finds that all the compartments fit his everyday needs.

Our Baby Parade expert, Erin, finds that this bag from our sister site captures the perfect balance of style and function.

Design Consultant Cathy thinks the boxy backpack is a modern mom’s necessity for hands-free trips to town or just a stroll by the seashore.

It’s a _____! Gender reveal party, revealed.

(Img Source: The Gender Reveal)
Carley here, at 32 weeks pregnant (51 days to go!). I’m here to share some details on if I’m buying tutu’s or tonka’s for my future babe and how I found out! I am a Type A, planner to the nth degree. When we found out we were pregnant, I was just as excited about finding out what the baby was, as finding out there was a baby at all! When I realized our 20 week appointment fell just a couple days before Christmas, I came up with all sorts of plans (type-a I say!)! I asked the ultrasound tech to write our babe’s gender on a card, and my Husband and I would open it on Christmas Eve, and share the news with our family on Christmas Day!

Our friends, however, were forced to wait for new years eve to find out at our gender reveal party! For the party, I had a couple tricks up my sleeve, it was a “Chinese food potluck” where everyone brought their favorite Chinese takeout. I made fortune cookies, that had funny sayings inside, for example “A dirty diaper is in your future” and “You will be babies favorite!” and I passed those out shortly before midnight. At midnight, my plan was to have a trunk full of colored (pink or blue) balloons that we opened in front of all of our friends, out the balloons would fly:

Similar to the photo seen below:

Well I had purchased several plain latex helium balloons, and one foil balloon. The latex balloons were too large for the trunk, so I let out half of their helium, but they still floated just fine (when they went into the trunk) so everyone counted down in anticipation… 3.. 2.. 1… We open the trunk, and WALAH! 1 puny foil balloon floats up! The rest lost their helium charge from either the air I depleted or being locked in a trunk for two days. Anywho, the plan didn’t exactly go off as I imagined (so much for my type A!)! But everyone was so excited to see that one blue balloon that it didn’t matter much, and made it all rather comical.

So there you have it, how we found out we were having a boy, and how we announced it to the world!
Do you have a gender reveal story that is special, or didn’t go as planned? We’d love to hear about your little lady or gent!
