The Princess Palace Guide

Is your little girl a perfect princess? Then it’s time to make her feel like one! We’ve put together a guide to help you design the ultimate princess room.

How to Create the Perfect Palace for your Little Princess:

  1. Make it Pink! Little girls love pink and they’ll look so adorable surrounded by such a soft, feminine color.
  2. Personalize It.  This is her space, so add her name and initials wherever you can, this room is all about HER!
  3. Sparkle and Shine.  What princess doesn’t love a little glamour in her space? Use unique lighting or a gold leaf finish to add sparkle.
  4. Soften the room.  A princess is delicate and needs a soft place to rest her head. Choose luxurious linens for the bed with a soft shaggy raggy area rug to complete the room.
  5. Go Custom.  When everything just seems too “been there, done that” create a truly one-of-a-kind bedroom for your princess with a hand-painted mural and custom built furniture to match.

The Western Vintage Way

Whether you’re decorating a nursery, living room, or the whole house, designing with the Western Vintage way will bring a warm feeling to your space. Mix weathered and vintage looking furnishings with earthy tones, Aztec-inspired patterns, and a touch of western décor to achieve this rising style trend in interior design.

Our designers have put together Western Vintage looks for both you and baby, so you can be at home on the range no matter where you live. Are you a fan of this style or do you think it should stay in the “Old West?”

Western Vintage Living Room from PoshLiving

Add eclectic flare to your home with these Western Vintage inspired favorites from PoshLiving. Using a geometric designed rug with bold bright colors brings visual interest to this living space.

Mixing in soft fabrics with the leather sofa softens the room, while the weathered case pieces make the room feel rustic.  Unique lighting and traditional art are the finishing touches needed to make this room complete.

 Western Vintage Nursery by PoshTots

We adopted this version of the typical kid-inspired cowboy themed room and gave it a little bit of sophistication.

Starting with a palette of neutral earthy shades, subtle hints of the Wild West adorn this nursery. Accents of vintage-inspired furnishings and accessories are just enough to create this eclectic mix.

A Colorful Case of the Blues!

To my amazement, this summer my hydrangeas bloomed with full force. I wasn’t feeling very confident since I had just planted them at the end of last fall, but they looked healthy and the flowers had the most intense blue.

There is something to be said about Hydrangea blue: it is not uniform but it runs the gamut from the pale to the almost purple. I love the medium blue and find it very inviting. Apparently, Designer Benjamin Noriega Ortiz is also a fan. The Mondrian Hotel in NYC, which he designed, makes use of that beautiful blue to create a magic atmosphere.

If you happen to be planning a trip to the Big Apple, make sure you sneak in for a drink and soak in this magic blue that does wonders for the hotel’s ambiance.  Not only you will be surrounded by this sophisticated shade of blue; you will marvel at every small detail of its décor.

I especially thought the bookcase display at the café was quite clever with its books grouped by the color of their jackets. This is something one can do at home and reap the rewards of a carefully staged bookcase.

Another unusual feature was the use of many chandeliers to make a gigantic light fixture that sparkles above the bar area.

IMG00264-20130601-1500

At Isola Trattoria and Crudo Bar, their main eatery, suspended glass shelves make the perfect display venue for glasses and jars. This is another wonderful idea that we can translate to home décor.

A great way to make your home a step above the ordinary: Be bold and infuse unusual touches in your spaces. The world around us is a great laboratory of ideas. Make sure you take advantage of it by letting yourself be inspired wherever you go.  I will be on the look out for tips and ideas to share with you.

Behind the Scenes with Jenna Wolfe: Harper Estelle’s Nursery

A huge congratulation goes out to the Today Show’s Jenna Wolfe and NBC News correspondent Stephanie Gosk on their arrival of their baby girl, Harper Estelle Wolfeld-Gosk! The little angel was born on Wednesday, August 21 at 7:31p.m., weighing in at 7 pounds and 13 ounces.

hospital

Over the past few months, PoshTots CEO Andrea Edmunds and Lead Designer Patty Grogan have had the pleasure of getting to know the wonderful new moms while working with them to design Harper’s nursery.

“I love that Jenna is so practical, real and gracious. She wanted a ‘city girl chic’ nursery. She selected the colors and specifically did not want anything cutesie or baby looking, which made Patty and I laugh.

She and Stephanie are such cool girls. Patty and I came away wishing we lived closer and could hang out with them because they’re so much fun.  Jenna is just as witty and quick in person as she is on Today Show.” –Andrea Edmunds

Their condo is fresh, chic and every room seemed to get great sunlight, especially the nursery. Jenna and Stephanie agreed it was their favorite room in the house because it’s cozy. The color palette selected by Jenna and Stephanie was lavender and gray.

“The space we had to work with was about 10’ x10’. Within the space we had the challenge of fitting in all the basic nursery items to include a crib, changing table and glider. In addition to a fairly good size closet, it was important to have additional storage as well.

We added wall shelving and a built-in bookcase. It was important to select pieces that would offer extra storage too, such as the six drawer dresser that also functions as a changing table and a bookcase with drawers.” –Patty Grogan

We are beyond thrilled that Jenna and Stephanie love their new PoshTots nursery! It was a wonderful experience. Harper Estelle already seems comfy in her nursery with loving moms and we wish them years of happiness in their home.

Happy Designing!

Meet Patricia: The Brains Behind PoshLiving

Two years ago, I was transplanted from the Westport town of Connecticut to the southern city of Richmond, Virginia.  It all happened quite quickly: one day I was driving on the winding roads of New England and days later I was in a flat with rented furniture facing the exhaust system of the Kona Grill (which happens to be a great restaurant I later found out!). I landed in a new area of Richmond called Short Pump, referred to by many of the old timers as the “wrong zip code” because it’s mostly new development.

Now, after all the hurdles of a new life, I have grown to love this town. People are friendly, polite and hold the door for you and there are huge expanses of fields. On my way to work I have to stop for geese! And the Short Pump area, although not populated by the beautiful buildings of old Richmond, is a marvelous place to live. All this and it’s just one hour and a half from Washington, DC!

A few months later, with a new townhouse to furnish and a puppy to drive me crazy, I landed a great position at PoshLiving.  Although I still feel like Vince Vaughn at Google in the film “The Internship”, I love the idea of working with all these youngsters, full of cool ideas and with a great outlook on life.

There is nothing that I love more than design. From early on I knew that I wanted to be an Interior Designer. I am embracing this opportunity to share with you all things design and help make your lives stylish and pleasant. After all, it is in our homes that we seek refuge and comfort so special attention should be paid to our surroundings.

We are revamping our PoshLiving site to the same standards of our uber great PoshTots.  Our goal is to help you all have beautiful homes and we will shower you with ideas and tips.  There are great plans for a unique, new great gift registry especially for newlyweds. From tabletop and gifts, to the living room and even the nursery, we want to help you live a design-inspired life. Let’s make it a great ride!

“Speak” with the Perfect Accent

Maybe you can’t have that British or Brazilian accent you’ve always wanted, but that doesn’t mean you can’t create one of your own. You can speak in a green or blue accent, or maybe a tangerine or red accent is your favorite.

(No silly, we’re not talking about actual words here!) We’re talking about speaking with décor. Adding an accent color can speak volumes when it comes to interior design.

If you like color but don’t want your entire space to be too bold, you can opt for neutral shades and choose accents in your favorite colors. It’s the perfect way to liven up your space and you can easily switch the accent color for different seasons. Take a look at our accent inspirations below!
